Chesterfield, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - In a statement, Chesterfield School Superintendent Merv Daugherty says, “I apologize to our families for the stress and frustration that these transportation problems have caused at the start of the school year.” The apology follows three days of long waits at stops, long rides home, and long lines at schools as parents drive their kids.
The district says it is working to hire more drivers, and has some potential ones going through background checks, interviews, and training. Chesterfield also plans to host a job fair at Manchester Middle School on September 30th.
The district also says it has been working to, where they can, improve efficiency at pickup and dropoff. Long lines have occurred at schools as parents have heeded calls to drive students to school. The district is down nearly 100 drivers.
