Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Richmond parents are being asked to make sure their children are inside by 11 p.m. every night following a surge in shootings in recent weeks.

In a press conference held Monday, April 15 at City Hall, Richmond city leaders spoke about the recent shootings, which resulted in the deaths of a 14-year-old boy and three 16-year-old boys. These were each separate, unrelated incidents which took place in the time between Sunday, March 31 and Sunday, April 14.

Richmond’s Chief of Police, Rick Edwards, said during the conference his department is instituting a curfew for juveniles in the city in an attempt to protect them from this violence.

“Starting right now, at 11 p.m., we’re asking parents to bring their children inside their homes, where they can be safe,” Edwards said.

Edwards described the recent shootings as “totally preventable,” most stemming from the escalation of small arguments.

“When everyone in that argument has a gun, that’s when you see what we’re seeing,” Edwards said.

Effectively immediately, parents are being asked to bring their children inside their home by 11 p.m.
