First Hearing for Bridgewater Suspect

As Investigation into Killing of Officers Continues

Bridgewater, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Alexander Wyatt Campbell, the Ashland man accused of killing two campus police officers at Bridgewater College, made his first court appearance today. His lawyer expects to ask for a mental health evaluation. Campbell, 27, will be back in court February 16th.

State Police continue to investigate what lead up to the shootings that killed officers J.J. Jefferson and John Painter. The two were investigate a suspicious man on campus when they were shot. Both died at the scene.

Campbell was later arrested off-campus in the town of Bridgewater. He faces multiple murder charges as well as use of a firearm. He reportedly is a former Bridgewater student and athlete. Classes at Bridgewater are cancelled until Monday.
