Henrico County, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Henrico Doctors’ Hospital failed to report the suspected abuse of premature babies in its neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) within 24 hours, as is required under a policy from the Virginia Department of Health (VDH).
This is according to an investigative report by our partners at 8News, which found that HDH also violated policy by not keeping clear records of which NICU staffers took babies to have lab specimens collected.
A total of seven injured babies are having their cases examined. Four of the babies were hurt in 2023 and three were hurt in 2024.
Former nurse Erin Elizabeth Ann Strotman has been arraigned on her alleged treatment of one injured baby. Strotman is facing abuse charges and is under a court order prohibiting her from having any contact with children under the age of 18. Her next court appearance is set for March 24 at 2 p.m.
The NICU ward at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital has stopped accepting admissions while an investigation by multiple agencies is carried out.
