Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - A former employee at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) made her first court appearance on Friday after being charged in connection to an investigation into babies’ “unexplainable fractures.”
Last week, police charged 26-year-old Erin Elizabeth Ann Strotman of Chesterfield County with malicious wounding and felony child abuse in connection to injuries to newborns in November.
During a hearing Friday, Strotman said she did not know she had been fired and was still being paid during the week of Thanksgiving in 2024.
The hospital said the “unexplainable fractures” discovered in three babies in late November and December were similar to an incident involving four babies in 2023. The two charges Strotman is facing are in connection to the case of one baby.
Strotman, who appeared by video to the hearing, is being held at Henrico County Jail. She is under a court order barring her from contact with children under the age of 18. Her next court appearance is set for March 24 at 2 p.m.
An investigation into the incidents is ongoing.
