Henrico Shares Details On Proposed Budget

Includes Pay Raises for County Employees and Personal Property Tax Cuts

Henrico, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) -- Henrico County has announced further details of their proposed budget for the 2023-2024 fiscal year.

The proposed features include an 8.2% merit-based pay raise for Henrico schools and county employees, part of an ongoing initiative for pay raises for county employees. There has been a 29.1% rise in county pay in the last 26 months, according to deputy county manager Brandon Hinton, and 78 cents of every newly-allocated dollar will go towards schools and public safety.

The county has also proposed a permanent cut in personal property taxes, with a rate reduction of 10 cents for every 100 dollars of a qualifying vehicle's estimated value. The proposal also includes expansions special programs within schools, including English as a second language. The proposed budget will be up for a public hearing on April 11 and, if adopted, will go into effect July 1.
