Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The Virginia Lottery says that the historic Powerball run that finally came to a close on Tuesday morning earned $42 million for Virginia K-12 education. Drawings for the world-record jackpot began in August and kept rising until early Tuesday morning, reaching an unprecedented $2.04 billion. All profits in Virginia are given by law to the Commonwealth's K-12 education.
Though the jackpot-winning ticket was sold in California, thousands of smaller-earning tickets were sold in Virginia. Over 303,000 Powerball tickets sold across the state won prizes ranging from $4 to $100,000.
