Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) -- Richmond Public Schools Superintendent Jason Kamras says that he will recommend RPS not follow the new state guidance on transgender students.
The Virginia Department of Education's new guidance on transgender students has been almost uniformly praised by conservative groups and condemned by LGBT groups. Claiming to put more power in the hands of parents, the policies require students to use the pronouns and bathrooms reflective of their legal sex unless their parents submit a written letter saying they can do otherwise.
Kamras has now said in a tweet that he will recommend the Richmond School Board "maintain our current policies on transgender students and reject the state's new model guidance."
