A submarine that was touring the Titanic wreckage has gone missing in the Atlantic Ocean. The search and rescue mission continued last night.
At a news conference yesterday, Admiral John Mauger of the U.S. Coast Guard said a C-130 crew was searching for the sub about 900 miles off the coast of Cape Cod, with the depth of the ocean at the scene around 13,000 feet. Aircraft and vessels were looking for the missing sub, and sonar buoys were being used to listen for any sounds coming from the vehicle or its occupants.
Five people were confirmed to be on board. The sub is believed to have a 96-hour emergency oxygen supply, and rescuers are working to find the sub before that time limit is up.
It is an 8 day mission that includes training and dives to the Titanic and cost $250,000 per person.
