The North American box office experienced its best weekend since 2019's "Avengers: Endgame” due to “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer”.
In the end, Greta Gerwig's "Barbie" won the box office with a $155 million debut weekend, which broke the record for the biggest North American opening by a female director, passing Marvel's "Captain Marvel" from 2019.
In second place was Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer," which had an impressive opening of $80.5 million, the best debut for a Nolan movie outside of his "Batman" films.
