Google has just come out with their annual Year In Search report, revealing the most popular searches for 2021. The topics that top the list? Professional basketball and money. According to the data released by Google, the NBA was the most popular trending search in the U.S. this year. Coming in second was DMX, the rap icon who died following a heart attack in April. And third was Gabby Petito, whose disappearance and murder grabbed national attention.
The 2021 search lists are based on terms with the highest spike this year compared to last year, Google says. In 2021, trending searches related to money were up. “Mega Millions, “AMC stock” and “stimulus check” were all in the top 10 overall trending searches and were the top three trending news searches in the U.S.
