The Texans continue to reshape their defensive line by trading Maliek Collins to the San Francisco 49ers for a seventh round draft pick.
By trading Collins, the Texans generate $2.55 million in net salary cap savings for 2024, seemingly freeing up space for his replacement. There are reports linking the Texans to 49ers defensive lineman Arik Armstead, who San Francisco could soon release. The Texans could also pursue their own free agent Sheldon Rankins.
Collins just signed a two-year, $23 million contract extension with Houston last offseason. The deal included $20 million guaranteed.
But the Texans are going in a different direction, first parting ways with last year's sack leader Jonathan Greenard, who signed a new deal with the Minnesota Vikings. Houston then added veterans Danielle Hunter, Danico Autry and Foley Fatukasi to go along with Defensive Rookie of the Year Will Anderson Jr.
