During a recent conversation with Audacy’s Julia, Audacy Launch artist Doechii discussed enjoying her successes, not giving up, following her heart and her high hopes for big features on her album, plus a whole lot more.

Acknowledging that her song “What It Is” has been out for a minute, Doechii is still celebrating its success, and how much the song has “grown a lot more than I predicted.”
When making the track, Doechii revealed she did have a “gut feeling” that it would be successful, adding “I kinda knew.”
When accepting her Rising Star Award at Billboard Women in Music, Doechii thanked all those who came before her for paving the way. Curious about Doechii's plans to do the same for her next ups, Julia asked her what she hopes to do.
“Honestly I think just doing everything confidentially that I wanna do. Like no matter what, even if I get Nos, just doing what it is that I wanna do… and following my heart, and following my art. And hopefully I trailblaze in some way that somebody after me will be like ‘I’m not gonna give up, or I’m not gonna stop, because she didn’t stop and she kept following her heart.'”
Getting into how “What It Is” came about, Doechii shared it was because she was looking “for like a summer, nostalgic type of feeling, and I was really a fan of J. White and his beats.” After what she describes as a “horrible” session with him, a week after being signed, Doechii said she “wanted to work with him again,” and this time the result was the opposite. “When I heard the beat I just knew immediately, it was gonna be crazy.”
“Almost done,” with her album, Doechii revealed she is working on the “final touches.” Also sharing that the scariest part about making it “so far,” would have to be the “features.” Further explaining, “because I want really big features, and I hope the features that I want will happen.”
