Funk and soul icon, Rock Hall inductee, and multi-GRAMMY winner Nile Rodgers is mourning the loss of his mother, Beverly Goodman, who passed yesterday, December 27, after a battle with Alzheimer’s.

Nile posted a touching tribute to his mother on social media on Sunday, saying "My mom #BeverlyGoodman #RIP passed away around 6am today. I breathed some of my 1st breaths with her and she breathed some of her last with me. My brothers and I will contact everyone soon. Today I’m numb."

Just days prior, the musician lamented not being able to visit his mother for the holidays.

"The saddest part of this #COVID holiday is not being able to visit my #mom," he said, echoing the same feelings of many across the world as the coronavirus pandemic has swept through communities large and small. "She’s always happy and entertaining even w late stage #Alzheimer’s," he mused while sharing a video from two years ago of them enjoying each other's company.

Our thoughts are with Nile and his family at this time.
