Two weather delays couldn't damper the Padres day, as they overcame a delayed start to the game and a mid-game rain delay to storm back and beat the Yankees 4-3 on Monday. The Padres were unable to get to Yankees starter Carlos Rodon, who pitched 6.1 shutout innings. Trent Grisham hit a 2-run homer in the 3rd inning against his former team.

The real drama began in the top of the 8th inning. With the Padres trailing 3-0 and representing the tying run with baserunners at 1st and 2nd, Fernando Tatis had a pivotal at-bat. Mike Shildt screamed at the home plate umpire from the dugout after a borderline called strike. After Tatis struck out swinging, he had some words for the home plate umpire, and was promptly ejected. Shildt bolted out of the dugout to voice his displeasure, and got his money's worth before getting ejected. After Tatis struck out, Luis Arraez drew a 2-out walk to load the bases for Manny Machado, who ripped a 2-run double into left field to make it a 3-2 game. Xander Bogaerts followed with a 2-run single, and all of a sudden, the Padres had a 4-3 lead. Jeremiah Estrada and Robert Suarez each tossed a scoreless inning in a driving rain to secure the 4-3 win for the Padres.
