The Padres fell to the Pirates 7-1 on Tuesday evening in a game that began as a pitcher's duel. Paul Skenes and Nick Pivetta were both terrific, as the game was scoreless into the 5th inning. Oneil Cruz's 2-out 2-run double in the bottom of the 5th brought home the first runs of the game, and would prove to be Pivetta's only blemish in an otherwise dominant start that saw him strike out 8 hitters. Skenes carried a shutout into the 7th inning, but Xander Bogaerts' solo homer put the Padres on the board and cut the deficit in half. Things went south for the Padres in the 8th inning, when Adrian Morejon allowed 5 runs (4 earned) on five singles and an error by Bogaerts. The Padres will look to rebound and win the series with an early morning game on Wednesday with Michael King on the bump.
