The Padres dropped a close game to the Mets in New York on Wednesday, losing the series two games to one. Michael King pitched well, pitching into the 7th inning while allowing just 2 runs on a 2-run homer to Carson Benge in the 4th inning that barely cleared the wall. Fernando Tatis Jr. continued to torment the Mets, ripping an RBI-double in the 5th inning to make it a 2-1 game. But the Mets rallied for 2 runs in the 8th inning to give the Mets a 3-run cushion. Gavin Sheets delivered a pinch-hit RBI-single in the top of the 9th to bring the Padres to within two runs. With one out and runners on the corners, and Sheets representing the game-tying run at first base, pinch-hitter Austin Hays grounded into a game-ending double play. The Padres will now return home and host the Twins beginning on Friday.
