The Padres earned a crucial series split against the Diamondbacks, who they are competing with for a wild card spot, with a 5-1 win on Thursday evening. The Padres had plenty of traffic on the basepaths, and left nine runners on base, but were able to jump ahead with a run in the first inning, and then two more in the third to give them a 3-0 lead. The Padres added runs in the 6th and 7th innings, something they've struggled with in the past. Walker Buehler was effective, but with a fully rested bullpen, Craig Stammen was able to be aggressive with his highest leverage relievers to win an important game that had tiebreaker implications with their divisional foe. The Padres now return home to host the Astros on Friday.
