With 44 days before the start of UT football there are rumors of a big shake-up in the Big 12 and Southeast Conference.
Based on rumors reported by the Houston Chronicle, both Texas and Oklahoma have contacted the SEC, putting out feelers that they would like to move from the Big 12.
This move would leave the SEC with 16 schools and leave the Big 12 with only 8 members. That in turn could give the impetus to the Big 12 and the remaining Power Five conferences including the ACC, the Pac-12 and the Big 10, to expand to 16 teams, as well.
Such a move would require approval from three-quarters of the SEC schools, meaning just four schools could block it.
Texas A&M, once the Longhorns fierce conference rivals, have made it clear they do not want any other Texas teams in the SEC.
Nobody's is willing to confirm this story. Texas and Oklahoma put out statements saying they would not comment. Same with the SEC.
So far, the Irving-based Big 12 is not saying anything at all.
