COLLEGE STATION (Talk1370.com) -- Texas A&M's Marcel Reed ignited a stunning second-half comeback, rushing for three touchdowns as the No. 14 Aggies defeated No. 8 LSU 38-23.
The victory makes Texas A&M (7-1, 5-0 SEC) the sole undefeated team in conference play, marking a seventh consecutive win for the Aggies. It's the first time the Aggies have reached a 5-0 conference record since joining the SEC, and keeps them in contention for a first-ever appearance in the conference championship game.
It's also the first time Texas A&M has defeated two top 10 opponents at home in the same season since 1989.
LSU (6-2, 3-1 SEC) led at halftime; then, with about eight minutes left in the third quarter, BJ Mayes intercepted a pass from Tigers quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, returning it to the LSU 8-yard line. Reed scored on the next play, cutting the Tigers' lead to 17-14.
Reed's second touchdown gave the Aggies their first lead of the night with about a minute left in the third, making the score 21-17.
LSU struggled with kicking in the second quarter, with Damian Ramos missing field goals of 48 and 49 yards that otherwise would have extended the Tigers' halftime lead.
Reed finished the night with two completions for 70 yards and another 62 on the ground on nine carries; Conner Weigman, before he was benched in the third quarter, was 6 of 18 for 64 yards.
Texas A&M will head to South Carolina next Saturday for another night kickoff; LSU will enjoy a bye week before hosting Arkansas on Nov. 9.
