Audacy Houston is teaming up with the Barbara Bush Literacy Foundation's "My Home Library" to help build home libraries for children in need.
There is 1 book for every 300 low-income households in Houston; 60 percent of Houston area children enter kindergarten each year lacking requisite reading skills.
Books build vocabulary, boost comprehension levels, expand knowledge, and spark creativity. Let's help provide that for the children in our community.
The literacy foundation is rooted in Barbara Bush's belief, "If you help a person to read, then their opportunities in life will be endless."
Your tax-deductible donation directly benefits economically disadvantaged children in Houston.
For as little as $30, you can sponsor a child’s home library of six books. The children then get to pick the books themselves for their own library! There is no minimum or maximum donation amount.
Through My Home Library, community members can donate any amount to support fulfilling home library wish lists.
Since the program launched, Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation has expanded the reach of My Home Library and is now serving 25,000 children annually.
Starting Monday, Sept. 6, by donate by texting HTXREADS to 41444, or by visiting https://www.bushhoustonliteracy.org/donate.
You can also donate your used children's or adult books to us Friday afternoon at the station.
