Tom Wilson could be looking at another suspension after his high hit on Brandon Carlo of the Bruins on Friday night.
The NHL Department of Player safety announced Saturday morning that the Capitals forward has been offered an in-person hearing for the hit on Carlo, which occurred in the first period of Washington’s 5-1 loss. The meeting would be held over Zoom due to COVID precautions.
The date of the hearing has not been decided, but it could result in another lengthy suspension for Wilson, who was suspended for 20 games (later reduced to 14) after a hit to the head of Oskar Sundqvist during a preseason game against the Blues in 2018.
Wilson was in a similar spot just weeks ago, when a hit on Pittsburgh’s Mark Jankowski came late and resulted in a penalty on Feb. 25. Friday night's hit didn't result in a penalty, but Carlo left the game and was taken to a local hospital.
Wilson has not been suspended since the Caps' 2018 Stanley Cup run, when he was suspended for three games during their second-round series against Pittsburgh for an illegal check to the head of Zach Aston-Reese.
