The Commanders were busy in day three of the legal tampering period.

According to NFL Network, Washington added tight end Chig Okonkwo with a three-year deal, and minutes later, news broke from NFL insider Ian Rapoport that the Commanders had also signed safety Nick Cross.

The Cross deal is reportedly for two years and worth up to $14 million, while the Okonkwo deal is for three years and $27 million.

In Okonkwo, the Commanders land one of the top free agent tight ends available this offseason, helping to make up for the loss of Zach Ertz and giving Jayden Daniels another weapon in his third NFL season. Cross represents another addition to a defense that has undergone a makeover so far this offseason. Washington has also signed linebacker Leo Chenal, defensive ends Odafe Oweh and K’Lavon Chaisson, defensive tackle Tim Settle, and cornerback Amik Robertson.

Okonkwo, 26, logged a career-high 560 receiving yards last season, picking up two touchdowns and averaging 10 yards per reception. He has eight touchdowns and 2,017 receiving yards in four NFL seasons, all with the Titans.

Cross, 24, played all 17 games with the Colts last season and picked up one interception. His best season came in 2024, logging three picks in 17 games with Indy.
