Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - The Buffalo Bills put a bow on the final chapter of Highmark Stadium on Sunday with a convincing 35-8 victory over the New York Jets.
Josh Allen laced up to play just one snap in the contest in order to continue his impressive consecutive starts streak alive. After that, he gave way to backup quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, who put on an Allen-like performance by completing 22-of-29 passes for 259 yards and four touchdowns.
With this likely being the last game played at Highmark Stadium, or "The Ralph" as many refer to it, the atmosphere was electric from the opening kickoff, to the video tribute to the stadium after the game.
Bills head coach Sean McDermott understood the importance of this game for the organization, the fans, and the players, knowing what significance a building like Highmark Stadium has for so many in Western New York.
"I said it last week at the beginning of the week, this game was important to us as an organization. It was important to me as a coach, it was important to us as a staff, important to the players, and I really appreciate them taking it that way, in their approach," said McDermott following the win.
When it came to determining how much certain starters were going to play, if they even played at all, McDermott says it was a delicate balance of health, managing rep counts, and giving some others on the team opportunities to play.
"It was a little bit of a of a challenge during the week, but I thought the staff did a phenomenal job, as did the players really focusing in on our standard and how we play. And it showed up, on the field early," McDermott said. "I tip my cap to those guys and the way they prepared, and came out ready to play."
