Clemson was able to get a late game offensive spark and defensive stands down the stretch to get a 20-19 win at Louisville, Friday night. They also got help from the Cardinal kicking game as they missed two late field goal tries that would gave them the lead.
Adam Randall shouldered the load for Clemson's offense. He the team's only two offensive touchdowns. Randall scored twice and had 105 yards on 15 carries. Louisville's Keyjuan Brown had 135 yards on 15 carries, but never found the end zone.
The Tigers took an early 3-0 lead on a 27 yard Field Goal from Nolan Hauser. The Cards answered with a 51 yard field goal to tie at 3 at the end of the 1st quarter. Louisville then took the lead on a 1 yard Miller Moss TD run, but they missed the extra point and led 9-3.
Clemson trailed 9-3 when they got a fumble recovery from Avieon Terrell. That set up Randall's 1st TD run and the extra point made is 10-9, Clemson at the half.
Louisville opened the 2nd half scoring with a 7 play, 75 yard touchdown drive to take a 16-10 lead. Clemson answered with another FG from Hauser to make it 16-13. Louisville capped the 3rd quarter with a FG to take a 19-13 lead after three quarters.
Randall then had his second TD run of the game and Clemson got the extra point to lead 20-19 with 7:15 left to play. Louisville then missed on two late field goal tries, one from 50 yards and the other from 46. The Cards got the ball back one last time with 25 seconds left. Clemson's defense forced a turnover on down to preserve the one point win.
Clemson is now 5-5 on the season and 4-4 in ACC play. The Tigers host Furman this Saturday for a 4:30 PM kickoff. You can hear all the action on The Fan Upstate.
