It was standing room only as the fate of a historic Upstate landmark was discussed. The Pickens County Council voted Monday to approve creating a committee to preserve and focus on the future of the Greenville-Pickens Speedway.
Councilman Scott Lang proposed forming the committee to look into the situation and make recommendations to the Council. Two council members voted against the committee citing future issues with zoning and potential over involvement by local government. Those in support of the committee say it will clarify the ongoing issue.
The committee is said to be temporary until a more permanent plan for the speedway is adopted.
