DeAndre Williams Eligible For Tigers

The NCAA announced Wednesday that its Division I Council has granted a waiver to allow all transfers participating in NCAA-sanctioned sports, including men's and women's basketball, to compete immediately this season.

Williams transferred to Memphis from Evansville in the offseason, but he has not played for the Tigers due to various delays in the transfer waiver request process.

Penny Hardaway said Tuesday that if the Division I Council passed Wednesday's proposal regarding the immediate eligibility of transfers, Williams would be in uniform and available for Memphis (4-3) when it tips off versus Tulane at 8 p.m. Wednesday night. Williams missed the team's first seven games.

The 23-year-old – who sat out his freshman season with the Purple Aces in 2017-18 as a partial qualifier – averaged 15.2 points and 6.9 rebounds per game last season. He played only 20 games after suffering a back injury.
