Furman was impressive on both sides of the ball in their win over VMI. The Paladins had over 30 1st downs and nearly 450 yards of total offense, while holding VMI to under 250 total yards.
Neither offense could get going early on and the game was a scoreless tie after the 1st. Furman struck 1st on a Trey Hedden TD pass to Evan James to lead 7-0. VMI tied the game with a TD after a 75 yard drive with 1:15 left to play in the half. The Paladins then got another Hedden scoring strike to James and Furman got the two point try to go up 15-7 at the break.
In the 3rd, Furman got a TD run from Jayquan Smith to take 22-7 lead. They would take that lead into the 4th. The Paladins then got a TD run from ben Croasdale to go up 29-7. They added a FG to lead 32-7 late in the game. VMI then got a late TD to make the final score 32-14.
With the win Furman is now 6-5 on the season and they finish the SoCon slate at 4-4. They'll have their regular season finale at Clemson on Saturday. That game is set for a 4:30 PM kickoff. Hear all the action on The Fan Upstate.
