South Carolina went into Athens as a massive underdog Saturday night. Georgia's vaunted defense front was able to get consistent pressure, but it was their offense that seemed to take strides. Georgia got control of the game early and was able to put it away early on.
Georgia scored on its opening drive going 75 yards on 6 plays. That drive was capped by a 23 yard TD run by James Cook. South Carolina got on the board later in the 1st with a 37 yard FG from Parker White. Georgia QB J.T. Daniels was sharp despite dealing with an injury. Daniels hit Jermaine Burton for a 43 yard TD to put Georgia up 14-3. SC capitalized on a turnover and scored on a 27 yarder from White to make the score 14-6 after the 1st.
In the 2nd quarter, Georgia scored 12 unanswered points. The Bulldogs got another 1st half TD pass when Daniels found Adonai Mitchell. Georgia then got a safety and a field goal in the final seconds of the 1st half. Georgia took a commanding 26-6 lead into the break.
The Bulldogs added a pair of TD's in the 3rd quarter to extend the lead to 40-6 at the end of three. South Carolina did get their lone TD of the game in the 4th quarter when Luke Doty hit Josh Vann for a 36 yard hook up. That made the game 40-13, Georgia would "salt away" the clock from there.
While the Georgia defense lived up to the hype holding SC to 13 first downs and just 82 rushing yards on the game. The Georgia offense was the story though, racking up nearly 500 total yards, getting 26 1st downs and converting 75% of its 3rd down attempts.
South Carolina QB Luke Doty did not start but played the majority of the game. He came in after Zeb Noland left with a hand injury in the 1st half. Doty was 13 of 26 for 153 yards, a TD and a pick. Georgia QB J.T. Daniels shined going 23 of 31 for just over 300 yards, with 3 TD passes and an interception. Daniels completed passes to 9 different receivers and Georgia got 50+ rushing yards from three different ball carriers.
South Carolina falls to 2-1 on the season and 0-1 in SEC Play. Georgia improves to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the SEC. The Gamecocks host Kentucky Saturday night, Georgia travels to Vandy for a noon kick.
