Wofford falls at home 31-10 to Kennesaw State

Wofford fell at home Saturday night 31-10 to Kennesaw State. The run game for Kennesaw State overwhelmed Wofford, outgaining them 343-67 on the ground. The Owls would rack up 21 1st downs to Wofford's 12 on the night.

Neither team could muster any offense in the early going and the game was a scoreless tie after the 1st quarter. Kennesaw would get a TD and a FG in the 2nd quarter and Wofford would trail 10-0 at the half.


The Terriers got on the board with a 3rd quarter FG, Kennesaw St. found in the end zone in the quarter and led 17-3 after three. In the 4th, Wofford scored its lone TD, but the Owls found pay dirt twice and would win it by a final of 31-10.

Kennesaw State finished with over 400 yards of total offense. Their running game was so dominant that only threw the ball 6 times the entire game. The Owls had a major 3rd down advantage too, converting 7 of 15. Wofford was abysmal on the 3rd down going 2 for 12.

Kennesaw State QB Xavier Shepherd accounted for three total TD's, throwing for two on just 6 passing attempts. He also had 97 yards rushing and a TD on 17 carries. Kennesaw St. RB Kyle Glover had 18 carries for 116 yards and a score. The Owls also got 82 yards on 16 carries from Preston Daniels. Former Walhalla High School standout Zaire Scotland saw game action for Kennesaw State. Scotland is a true freshman RB at Kennesaw and was the Region 1-AAAA Player Of The Year as a HS Senior last year. Wofford got their lone TD on a run by Irvin Mulligan and got 4 catches and 79 yards from WR RJ Khayo.

The Terriers fall to 1-1 on the season with the loss. Wofford opens SOCon play this week when they travel to VMI.
