A longtime high school football coach in the Upstate is hanging up his whistle. Liberty Head Coach Paul Sutherland has announced his retirement. Sutherland has been at the helm for Liberty for the last 5 seasons.
He led them to an 8-4 record this year, the program's best season in over a decade. They finished the season with a playoff loss to Strom Thurmond this past Friday. The program has had two winning seasons in the last three under Sutherland.
Prior to his time at Liberty, Sutherland spent three seasons at Franklin County High in Georgia. Before that, he spent 17 seasons on the sidelines at Pendleton High School leading the program to multiple double digit win seasons.
