Men's basketball: Wichita State defeats Newman at Koch Arena

The Wichita State men's basketball team defeated Newman 81-43 on Wednesday evening at Koch Arena, in a matchup between the two NCAA programs in Wichita.

WSU improved to 5-2, with its fourth straight win; this game was an exhibition contest for Newman.

The Shockers shot 49% from the field, to Newman's 27%; the Jets also missed 87% of their 3-point attempts.

Wichita State bolted to a 16-0 lead in the first five minutes of the game, its biggest start in 29 years. Junior Dexter Dennis led the Shockers with 13 points.

This game was originally scheduled as the home conference opener for WSU; however, East Carolina had COVID-19 issues and did not travel to Wichita. Newman filled in as a replacement opponent.
