For those that don't know South Carolina High School Football starts with Week 0 every year. So while games have been going on now for 3 weeks, Sept. 6th was week 2 in high school football. Here's what happened and what we can take from it.

"In The Battle Of The Electric City" Westside was impressive in their 56-20 over TL Hanna. The Rams came in #1 in Class 4A and are the defending State Champs. Hanna came in ranked 6th in 5A. The fact that Westside handled TL Hanna like that, tells us that the Rams are a juggernaut. I don't want to speak to soon, but I am not sure who if anyone in 4A can run with the Rams.

What we also now know, Daniel is human and can be beat. The Lions won the 3A State Title last season and have been ranked in the top 3 after moving to 4A.Daniel was beaten in Week 2 by ranked 5A opponent JL Mann 28-23. Mann had an incredible run last year to the 5A Upper State Title Game. It marks Daniel's 1st loss since 2022 when they fell to Powdersville in the 3A playoffs. It's Daniel's 1st regular season loss since 2018.

We also now know that Mountain View Prep in Spartanburg is going to be a solid contender in 3A. This is the inaugural season for the program and in 3 games they have routed Southside Christian and St. Joe's two programs who have moved up in classes in the offseason, but have been extremely successful in 1A in recent years prior to moving up. Mountain View downed St. Joe's 48-21 in week 2.

Speaking of 3A, we know that BHP is loaded and have been ranked #1. We learned in Week 2 that they are a strong contender for the 3A State Title after they destroyed a Laurens program that is now coached by Greg Porter, one of the top coaches in the Upstate in recent years. If you don't know about BHP RB Marquise Henderson, you're missing out. He's a Senior and is currently committed to Clemson. Henderson broke the BHP program record for Career Rushing Yards in the win.

One last thing that we know, Gaffney is poised to be a player in late November as usual in 5A. Coach Dan Jones has already announced that he will retire after this season is over. Gaffney's offense is led by Arkansas QB Commit Javon Gilmore. While it was expected that Gaffney would beat Greenville High in Week 2, the Indians housed the Red Raiders 54-14. When's the last time you can remember Greenville High getting beat by 40? In all seriousness, I can't remember?

Week 3 is coming up on Friday and it's expected to reveal more to us and give a clearer picture of who are the contenders and who are the pretenders.
