While the major in-state college football programs have struggled this season, a couple of Division II teams from our listening area are thriving.
Both Newberry College and North Greenville University have captured the crown in the respective conferences and will now set their sights on the postseason.
Newberry clinched the South Atlantic Conference title with a 28-21 win over Carson-Newman, earlier this month. The Wolves are 9-1 on the season and have earned a home playoff game in the 1st round. They'll host Kentucky State on Saturday at 1PM.
North Greenville won the Conference Of The Carolinas crown after going 7-0 in league play. They downed UNC-Pembroke 34-20 in the conference title game this past Saturday.
NGU will travel to take on West Florida this weekend. It'll be a rematch after the two teams faced off in Tigerville earlier this season, with West Florida winning, 25-17. That game is set for a 2PM kickoff on Saturday.
If both Newberry and North Greenville win, the two would meet in the Midlands in the 2nd round.
