The Nationals were once again sellers at the trade deadline, this time trading away a generational superstar in Juan Soto to the Padres in one of the biggest blockbuster deals in league history.

Soto, still just 23 years old, was Washington’s lone All-Star this season, and one of four in 2021. Now, all four of those All-Stars from last year are gone, and every All-Star the Nats have had since their World Series season in 2019 have all been traded away or signed elsewhere.

Since 2019, the Nationals’ All-Stars have included Soto, Max Scherzer (2019, 2021), Anthony Rendon (2019), Kyle Schwarber (2021), and Trea Turner (2021). Scherzer and Turner were dealt in another summer blockbuster last year when they were sent to the Dodgers, and Schwarber was dealt before the 2021 deadline as well, sent to Boston for Aldo Ramirez. Rendon signed a big contract with the Angels after helping Washington win a World Series, and now Soto is reportedly on the move.

Even going back to 2018, when Scherzer was an All-Star along with Bryce Harper and Sean Doolittle, Harper is another big name that the Nationals didn’t retain, as he signed with the Phillies. Doolittle is back with Washington, but is on the 60-day IL.

Needless to say, nearly every big contributor from the most memorable season in Nationals history is now gone.
