The Browns announced on Monday that they’ll be raising season ticket prices for the 2023 season. Given their downhill slide in the past few years, it’s safe to say that there are some unhappy fans in Cleveland.

It’s only an increase of between $5 and $10 per game, according to the club, but that adds up over the course of the season – especially if you have more than two seats.

Despite Cleveland’s lack of success, there is actually decent reasoning behind the Browns raising their ticket prices.

Daryl Ruiter of 92.3 The Fan explained why the Browns are raising season ticket prices on the Audacy Original Podcast "It's Always Gameday in Cleveland."

“I understand the Browns have sucked since coming back in the league and so their ticket prices probably should be among the cheapest in the league ‘cause the team’s one of the worst in the league,” Ruiter said (5:05 in player above). “But they are raising ticket prices.

“This is part of the price of having a $250 million quarterback. It’s part of keeping pace with revenues around the NFL, ‘cause you have to understand one of the frustrations the NFL had with the Lerner family trust was the Browns had fallen behind not only in stadium but in revenue generation, local revenue generation into the pot, if you will, that is shared amongst league owners and that.”

Ruiter gets the frustration and sarcastic remarks, but it’s going to be a reality in the not-so-distant future due to simple supply and demand.

“The Browns say, according to what they put out on Monday, they’ve had like a 96% renewal combined over the last four years," Ruiter said. "They’ve got over 8,000 people waiting to buy season tickets so those fans that don’t want to renew their tickets, you have a couple thousand people that have placed deposits for a spot in line for the opportunity to buy season tickets.

"So from the Browns' standpoint, yeah, supply and demand. There is a demand. Each of the last four years they have sold out their season tickets.”

The ticket prices are rising for 2023 and they could skyrocket if the Browns build a new stadium, but that remains to be seen.
