The 28-year-old recently opened up about her decision to get a double mastectomy after testing positive for the BRCA gene which heightens the risk of obtaining breast cancer and ovarian cancer significantly.
"I had the BRCA gene, it's a breast cancer gene so I'm having a double mastectomy in November," she told Page Six. "I'm going really hard up until November, so then November and December I have off to rest."
According to cancer.org, a double mastectomy is a procedure that removes breast tissue “as a risk-reducing (or preventive) surgery for women at very high risk for getting breast cancer, such as those with a BRCA gene mutation.”
Despite the news, the singer-songwriter appears to be in good spirits regarding her decision, and draws support from the other home in her family who have made the same decision.
“My mom had it [a mastectomy], and my little cousin is going to get it, but I’ll be fine,” she said before sharing her biggest frustration is a disruption in her workout routine.
“I’m just pissed I won’t be able to work out because I really like working out,” she said. “That’s my only qualm about it.”
Ahead of her surgery, Wade is scheduled to release her second studio album, Psychopath, on August 25.
