An elderly Midlands man is in custody after a series of shootings, in Columbia Monday. Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced that 75 year old, Donald Wheeler has been arrested in connection to those incidents.
Wheeler is charged with murder, attempted murder, burglary and a weapons violation. Investigators say, the 1st shooting happened around noon on Palmetto Park Circle. When deputies arrived they found the woman suffering from gunshot wounds. She was taken to a local hospital to be treated.
Wheeler fled the scene prior deputies arriving. A second victim was found nearby on Reseda Drive and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 3rd woman told deputies that Wheeler came to her house and tried shooting her, but the gun was out of ammo by that point. Wheeler's vehicle was later located nearby and he was stopped and taken into custody.
