An elderly Upstate man is dead after falling from a boat into Lake Hartwell. Officials responded to the lake around 3:30 Friday afternoon. Upon arrival, 1st responders managed to find the man and pull him from the water. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The deceased has been identified as 80 year old, James De George of Anderson. Official say he had accidentally fallen off the back of the boat. His wife was with him and jumped into the water to help him, but was unable to get him back to the boat.
The cause of death was ruled a freshwater drowning and his manner of death is listed as accidental. This marks the latest of multiple drowning deaths at Lake Hartwell, this year.
