A Georgia teacher is dead after saving a young girl from drowning at Myrtle Beach over the weekend. Officials say, 47 year old, Derrick Moore jumped into the ocean Friday evening after seeing a girl that was in distress.
Moore was able to help the girl who survived the ordeal, but he was pulled under by the current. Moore's body was found the following morning about a mile from where he entered the water. There's been no update on the girl's condition.
Moore had reportedly never met her prior to the incident. Moore was a teacher at Rockbridge Elementary in Dekalb County. Many people around the world have mourned Moore's death including Georgia Governor Brian Kemp. He posted on X “Please join us in praying for this hero’s family and the Dekalb County community as they mourn his loss.”
