Two murder suspects are in custody after a deadly weekend shooting in the Midlands. The Sumter Police Department responded to a reported shooting just after 2AM, Saturday. Officers were notified that a woman had been shot and was being taken to a hospital in a private vehicle.
The victim later died at the hospital and has since been identified as 27 year old, Arieyelle Coulette of Sumter. Investigators say shots were fired from a parked vehicle into a vehicle that was passing by. Coulette was a passenger in the passing vehicle and was hit with gunfire.
Later two suspects 19 year old, Elijah Handy and 28 year old, Dorein Vereen-Price were both located and taken into custody. They are both charged with murder, Handy is also charged with a weapons violation. Police say, additional charges could be forthcoming, as the shooting remains under investigation.
