The mother of the 17 year old now charged as an adult in Saturday's shooting incident that forced the evacuation of Haywood Mall says he shouldn't have had a gun, but that "he fired it in self-defense when his brother was shot".
Amisha Griffin told the family court judge who transferred the case to adult court because of the aggravated assault charge that Kamari Walker's 18 year old brother, Kalief is in the hospital with bullet wounds to the neck and shoulder. The other victim, a woman who was apparently only a bystander, was wounded in the foot when the gunfire erupted from an argument between two groups of young people Saturday afternoon.
She and Kalief Walker are both recovering from surgery. Kamari Walker could face twenty years behind bars if he's convicted of the charges already filed, and investigators say more are pending in the case.
No word so far on any charges against the person Walker's mother claims fired the first shot that wounded his brother.
