New details have come to light after the arrest of a former high ranking deputy from Western North Carolina. As we previously reported, former Madison County Chief Deputy Bronis "Coy" Phillips was arrested last month in Arizona.
The Sheriff's Office says, they were 1st notified of alleged misconduct from Phillips last October. He is accused of pointing a gun at jail employees there, giving an inmate access to a gun and forcing an inmate to do labor at his home. The District Attorney was notified and he then turned the investigation over to the North Carolina State Bureau Of Investigation or NCSBI.
The misconduct allegedly happened between July and October of last year. Phillips is charged with assault with a firearm, forced slave labor, furnishing controlled substances and weapons to inmates and other crimes.
He's being held in Avery County, North Carolina on a bond of 1.5 million dollars.
