The South Carolina Republican Party is asking the State Supreme Court to overrule the Circuit Court judge's order to put Danny Ford Second's name on the special U.S. Senate primary ballot.
"Like being told to un-ring a bell," is how party leaders characterized Judge Daniel Coble's injunction requiring ballot changes in an election already underway.
Ford's contention that voting for himself in his unsuccessful campaign for Agriculture Commissioner does NOT satisfy the rule adopted earlier this year for candidates to have voted Republican in at least TWO of the past three tree primaries. The GOP argues in its appeal to the high court that a primary, and its runoff account for ONE election.
Coble's decision also challenges the constitutionality of the rule. Early voting began Wednesday morning and hundreds of absentee ballots without Ford's name have been mailed.
