Thursday, 5/28/26 10:15am: Evacuations are underway in downtown Spartanburg.
Spartanburg County Emergency Management is reporting a natural gas leak Thursday morning.
Around 10:15 a.m., the agency posted on social media that residents within a half-mile radius of the rupture on Floyd Road near Floyd Road Extension should calmly evacuate the area.
To check whether you are inside the evacuation area, click the link on the above photo. Once the map opens, type your address in the top search bar where it says “Enter Address.” If your address falls inside the shaded evacuation area, evacuate now. If you are outside the shaded area, there is no need to evacuate at this time.
Residents are being urged to avoid flames, sparks, smoking, or anything else that could ignite the gas near the leak. Officials say people should use safe evacuation routes, keep roads clear for emergency responders, and call 911 if they smell gas or need emergency assistance. At this time, officials have not released information about what caused the rupture or leak.
