The Chicago-style hot dog is arguably the most popular hot dog in the world. The lovable streetfood is a Vienna dog that’s been "dragged through the garden" and dusted with celery salt on a poppy-seed bun.

The Chicago dog is a symbol of the city. The origins of the glizzy date back to the Great Depression. The cheap and underrated delicacy is as ingrained in Chicago as much as the "L train."

The decades-old staple has outlived many foodie trends, but a hot dog is nothing more than its toppings, and some tastes go stale. Does the Chicago-style hot dog also need a revamp?

Buona, one of the city’s major Italian beef joints, has introduced a new “Spicy Dog.” The hot dog comes topped with another Chicago favorite: Italian beef toppings of melted cheddar cheese and hot giardiniera.

Our newsroom decided to do a taste test. The overwhelming majority prefer the classic Chicago-style dog but say the new sandwich is also delicious.
