SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Village of Schaumburg will decide in a couple of weeks whether to allow outdoor dining to continue through the winter.
Outdoor dining permits for Schaumburg restaurants expire Oct. 31, but now the village board will take up whether to extend those permits through the end of the next March.
Village officials said that as a result of the state’s indoor mask mandate, there’s been more interest in outdoor dining in Schaumburg.
The village said 18 restaurants still have outdoor dining set-ups, and that seven of those indicated in a survey they want to keep up the tents to give diners an outdoor option through the winter.
One restaurant operator told the Daily Herald he wants to give customers what they want and make them comfortable.
The village pointed out that while Naperville and Arlington Heights have discontinued outdoor dining for the year, other neighboring suburbs have either extended outdoor dining through the winter or are thinking about it.
Last week, the planning, building and development committee unanimously voted to extend outdoor dining options through next March. The full village board will address the extension on Oct. 26.
