Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson is dismissing an attempt by President Trump to raise money for his political fund by promising to "liberate" Chicago.

The email begins by saying "We're going into Chicago. I'm not saying when, but we're going in." It continues with claims about violent crime in the city that are by now familiar to people who have seen the President's appearances over the last two weeks ... and asks recipients to give $15 to the "MAGA Blitz" to "liberate" Chicago.

During a visit to the Southwest side on Thursday to talk with people affected by this summer's flooding, Mayor Johnson told reporters that the fundraising appeal shows how the President and his allies are politicizing the city and its people.

"President Trump and the Republicans don't want to solve issues in this country," the mayor said. "They do not."

The mayor says if the President were serious about curbing violent crime in the city, he'd work to keep illegal guns out of Chicago. "They would go to the states that voted for them, and work with the Chicago Police Department to ensure that we're not trafficking illegal guns across the border."

But he says the President's fundraising appeal shows ... he's not serious.
