AutoNSider Review | 2019 Cadillac CT6 Platinum AWD

Gotta’ admit…I’ve always wanted a CTS…the first of Cadillac’s CT’s.
The guy across the street has an ’07. Beautiful metallic red with tan leather…gutsy 3.6 engine…broken tail light…scuffed up bumper…no starter.
He wants two thousand more than I’m offering. Wish me luck.
Where’s the appeal? Well, I drove one at Road Atlanta and I know what it can do. Plus I’ve always just admired the CT’s somewhat aggressive in-your-face styling.
And that All-American brassiness is still there in today’s all-grown-up executive-transport CT6.
It starts as soon as you punch “Start” and light up that twin-turbo V-8. Yes…what’s more American than a big bleatin’ V-8 talkin’ to ya’ out of quad pipes in the rear?
Get the CT6 in top-of-the-line Platinum trim and you get Caddy’s 4.2 Twin-Turbo Blackwing 500 HP Blackwing V8…and you’ll get to 60 in 4.4 seconds.
Not too shabby.
Sure, there’s plenty of faster vehicles, but again, it’s the little bit of “Cowboy” that Cadillac bakes into it’s vehicles that separates Caddy from the Europeans.
You either like it or you don’t.
And for those that do, you’ll also find some interesting technology, too. You’ll get all of today’s warnings and alerts, of course, plus smart phone connectivity and race-car-inspired computerized “mag-lev” suspension that anticipates bumps and adjusts right before impact…dramatically smoothing you ride.
The Platinum also brings 20-way heated and ventilated semi-anline leather seating…and in true high-end Euro fashion, Cadillac adds a massaging feature to those seats. And your rear outboard seats are heated, too.
But it’s Cadillac’s hands-free “Super-Cruise” and automated parking assist that give Cadillac an edge over many of it’s luxury competitors.
19” alloys, a huge sunroof and rear-seat entertainment round out some of the Platinum’s features.
What’ll all this run? Figure on a window-sticker in the high $90’s.
But if you like the look of this roomy, luxury 5-seater and are willing to forego some of the features, you can get a CT6 in the $50’s…and it’ll still have the 10-speed automatic and AWD that graces the Premium.
So just one caveat: If you have a little “Cowboy” in your blood and find this All-American luxury sedan to be of interest, hurry. Today’s move to “Utility” vehicles means that 2020 is the last year that Cadillac will be making the CT6.
But that also means that if this is on your radar, you just might be able to negotiate an outstanding “closeout” deal on one.
And as for me, I’m going to try to score that ’07 that I mentioned earlier
