Front Row, baby…nothin' but front row!

Yes…valet this bright yellow work of art, and you won't have to look hard to find it when you're ready to leave.

And just to give you a feel as to the league that this ride is in, that "Solarbeam Metallic Yellow" is a $9,900 option.   But hey…I'm getting ahead of things here.

Mercedes' AMG GT is the pinnacle of their performance division.  Forget the "Grand Touring" part of the name…this vehicle is a race car without a number.

And people can sense it, too. Stopped at a light, a 20-something coming out of a fast-food store waved and yelled "let me hear the motor!"  I did.   He approved.

Not so much approval, though, from the 40-something that was driving the Porsche Cayman GT when I pulled into the Quick Trip.   While the Cayman GT is a beautiful machine with a nice, guttural exhaust note, the AMG GR R just ruined his morning.   The AMG GT R has the most robust exhaust I've ever heard this side of Road Atlanta.

Starting in the low six-figures, all AMG GTs come with twin-turbo 4.0 liter V-8s and seven-speed dual clutch automatics.

The baby of the bunch…the "GT"…is rated at 469 HP and will get you to 60 in 3.9 seconds.

Need to go faster?   Well, let's correct that.   Want to go faster?   If so, the AMG GT C  has 81 more HP, and will get you to 60 three-tenths of a second quicker….all for around 150K give or take.

We had the King Daddy, tho'…the GTR.   The entry fee for this bad boy starts in the low $160s…and with options and packages can go North of 200K…as did ours.

So what do you get for that kind of money…besides exclusivity, truly sensuous  looks, and more performance than the average driver can handle?

Again, you get an actual race car that's just missing a number.   For starters, your 577 HP engine is hand-assembled.   You've got a mirror-like finish on the cylinder walls for low friction.   You get fuel injection at up to 2,900 PSI….up to five sparks in each ignition cycle…a lightweight carbon-fiber driveshaft and roof…a dry-sump lubrication system that allows the engine to be positioned two-inches lower…all for better cornering.   Again…real race car stuff.

The top-end is just a hair under 200 MPH.   0-60 in 3.5.

Wisely, Mercedes gave this beast a lot of travel in the accelerator.   I say "wisely" because punch this thing hard in almost any gear and you'll easily smoke those huge sticky 20" 30-series P-Zero tires.

If you need more than this vehicle offers, you may need to look at a Lear.
